I recently had a tech support conversation with Blizzard about running Diablo II and Diablo II + LOD on the same machine.
Is there a way to have this registry edit file, to change the bnet gateway file located at HKEY_CURRENT_USER Software Configuration NVM guess that doesn't matter, forgot plugy disables the button I made the reg edit file look like this (excuse my reddit n00bness) Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 'InstallPath'='F: Games Diablo II ' 'Save Path'='F: Games Diablo II Save ' 'NewSavePath'='F: Games Diablo II Save ' 'InstallPath'='F: Games Diablo II ' Now what I am curious about.
Running the shortcut to it, however, still runs the regular version. EDIT2: running the launch.cmd directly from the plugy folder runs the correct version of D2, but with no plugy. EDIT: I got the permission problem settled by going into regedit and giving my user permission to edit the D2 registry folder, but the game still doesn't seem to switch, and looking at the registries, it doesn't seem to actually change them. I saw someone in a different comment having an issue, but the changes he said he made seem to be identical to the guide, so. I ran it through command prompt so I could see output, and it said trouble accessing registries. Any ideas as to why? The game opens just fine with both, but they both open the main version, no PlugY. Hey, I'm trying to install PlugY and I really appreciate this guide, but it doesn't seem to work for me. This is going to be the game you run to play online. Install Diablo II + Expansion into 'E: Games Diablo II'. It will just remove Diablo II from the list of installed programs. Since the folder has been renamed, no files will be deleted. Go to 'Add or remove programs' and uninstall Diablo II. This is going to be your D2+PlugY folder from now on. Rename 'E: Games Diablo II' folder to something like 'E: Games Diablo II PlugY'. The actual guide Install Diablo II + Expansion into 'E: Games Diablo II'. Since PlugY is only going to be used for single player, there shouldn't be any problems. I've used the same CD-keys for both installations. Please note that by default Diablo II may use a different folder for saves, so either move your saves around or change the save folder option in the REG files below. I've made it so both versions place saves into their own Save subfolders. If you need to downgrade your version to 1.13 there are good guides on that here on Reddit or elsewhere. I have 1.12A install packages from a while back, so I don't have to deal with downgrades. Change that to whatever folder you keep your games in. Some points to mention first All installations are done in 'E: Games' folder.
I'd like to share a full step by step guide on how I made things work in my case. Finally I've stumbled on on that pushed me into right direction. I didn't want any of this, I just wanted to have 2 folders and two shortcuts on my desktop. Some people used virtual machines for that, others used some 3rd party software. I've tried several times but nothing worked and there was seemingly no definitive answer on the internet. The second version 1.14D for online play. One version 1.13D for single player, with PlugY installed. I've recently had an idea to install two versions of Diablo II in parallel.
